Experience. Knowledge. Adventure.
4×4 Wales is about helping people discover Wales by 4×4 — whether that’s joining one of our guided green lane adventures, exploring independently with a Self-Guided Adventure Pack, arranging a private tour or developing your 4×4 driving skills.
Behind 4×4 Wales is more than 35 years of professional driving experience, specialist 4×4 training and a lifetime of exploring the roads, tracks and landscapes of Wales.
Explore Wales. Drive the Green Lanes.
Meet Adam Hearne
Over 35 Years of 4×4 Experience
I’m Adam Hearne, the owner of 4×4 Wales.
I’ve been exploring Wales by 4×4 for over 30 years, discovering its green lanes, mountain roads, forests and remote landscapes.
That experience is at the heart of 4×4 Wales.
The routes I use aren’t simply lines found on a map. They’re built from years of driving, exploring and learning what makes a great day behind the wheel.
From the Cambrian Mountains and Strata Florida to the remote landscapes of Mid and North Wales, my aim is to show customers a side of Wales they may otherwise never experience.

Professional 4×4 Experience
My experience extends well beyond recreational green laning.
I have over 30 years of professional driving experience and more than 20 years’ experience as a qualified specialist 4×4 trainer.
Over the years I’ve been involved in professional driver training, vehicle launches, media events, route planning, automotive events and specialist 4×4 projects.
My professional driving work has included projects involving manufacturers such as:
- INEOS Grenadier
- Ford
- Jeep
- Mitsubishi
This combination of professional training, vehicle knowledge and real-world driving experience underpins everything offered through 4×4 Wales.
My INEOS Grenadier Journey
My involvement with INEOS Grenadier began in January 2023 when I was selected as a member of the INEOS Pro-Driver Team for Expedition 1.0: The Global Media Drive.
The event involved driving the Grenadier as part of an international media programme, culminating in a journey from Scotland to the Grenadier pub in Belgravia, London.
In July 2023, I was invited to work as one of the professional drivers for INEOS Grenadier at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
Having spent considerable time driving the Grenadier professionally, I was impressed enough with the vehicle to add one to the 4×4 Wales fleet.
In November 2024, I took delivery of an INEOS Grenadier Utility Station Wagon for the business.
Since then it has become a working vehicle rather than a showroom 4×4, covering tens of thousands of miles on adventures in the UK and overseas.
In February 2025, working in association with the INEOS Grenadier marketing team, I also led a group of journalists and social media influencers along the iconic Strata Florida route in Mid Wales.
These experiences have given me extensive knowledge of the Grenadier both as a professional driver and as an owner using the vehicle in demanding real-world conditions.
Guided 4×4 Adventures
Let 4×4 Wales Lead the Way
Our guided adventures allow you to explore Wales in your own 4×4 while we take care of the route and navigation.
Tours are designed around carefully selected legal green lanes, spectacular Welsh landscapes and interesting places along the way.
Groups are deliberately kept manageable, allowing customers to enjoy the driving and scenery without the experience becoming a large convoy.
Whether you’re an experienced green-lane driver or relatively new to exploring in your 4×4, individual tour descriptions provide information about the expected difficulty and vehicle requirements.
Guided adventures start from £120 per vehicle per day.
Private 4×4 Adventures
For customers wanting something more personal, private guided adventures provide the opportunity to explore Wales with an itinerary tailored around your vehicle, experience and interests.
Private adventures can be suitable for individuals, families, friends, clubs and small groups.
They can also be a great option for someone who has recently bought a capable 4×4 and wants to gain confidence while exploring with an experienced guide.
Private adventures start from £360 per day.
Self-Guided 4×4 Adventures
We’ve Planned the Adventure. You Drive It.
Not everyone wants to follow a convoy or be tied to a timetable.
That’s why 4×4 Wales has developed a growing collection of Self-Guided 4×4 Adventure Packs.
These aren’t simply downloadable GPX tracks.
Each Adventure Pack is designed to create a complete journey that you can experience in your own vehicle and at your own pace.
Depending on the adventure, packs can include:
- Carefully planned GPX navigation
- Digital A5 Adventure Guide
- Route and driving information
- Points of interest
- Scenic and photographic locations
- Personal recommendations
- Vehicle and experience guidance
- Route updates
The first in the collection, Adventure 001 – Wild Wales Explorer: Strata Florida, takes drivers on a full-day journey through some of the spectacular landscapes and green lanes of Mid Wales.
More 4×4 Wales Adventures will continue to be added.Adventure Packs
Professional 4×4 Driver Training
Training has been an important part of my professional career for more than two decades.
4×4 Wales provides professional driver training for private individuals, businesses and organisations.
Training can be tailored around the driver, vehicle and intended use and can include vehicle familiarisation, 4×4 systems, terrain assessment, vehicle control, hill techniques, traction management, recovery principles and responsible green-lane driving.
The objective isn’t simply to get a vehicle through an obstacle.
It’s to help the driver understand why the vehicle behaves as it does and how to make better decisions behind the wheel.
Responsible Green Laning
Protecting the Routes We Enjoy
Responsible use of Wales’ green lanes is fundamental to 4×4 Wales.
Green lanes are public highways shared with walkers, cyclists, horse riders, local residents, farmers and other countryside users.
We encourage drivers to:
- Use only routes with legal vehicular rights
- Check current restrictions and Traffic Regulation Orders
- Respect temporary and seasonal closures
- Drive according to the conditions
- Give consideration to other users
- Respect livestock and local communities
- Avoid unnecessary damage
- Leave gates as they are found
- Take litter home
- Help preserve these routes for future users
Green laning isn’t about conquering the countryside.
It’s about exploring it responsibly.
